The
Hole

"We make work that begins in the body and ends somewhere the body can't fully reach."

The Hole Studio is a Toronto-based contemporary dance and theatre company founded by Jaber Ramezani and Negar Nemati. The company creates work for festivals, theatres, and non-traditional spaces.

The Hole Studio began as a shared question between two artists who refused to wait for permission. Founded in Toronto roughly two years ago, the company made its debut at Luminato 2024 with Unground — a site-specific work created with no studio, no budget, and no track record.

The name comes from the idea of a hole as a point of entry — a gap in the expected, a threshold between the familiar and the unknown. Each production starts from a question the company doesn't yet know how to answer, and the work stays in that uncertainty rather than resolving it.

The Hole Studio makes work for audiences who want to be moved, unsettled, and taken somewhere they didn't plan to go. The company is based in Toronto and available for presentations, co-productions, and residencies across Canada and internationally.

How we
make work

01

Movement First

The body is where every work starts. We build from physical intelligence, not despite it — and the movement never serves the concept, it generates it.

02

Collaborative Authorship

Every production is a shared inquiry. Authorship is distributed and credited honestly. The room makes the work, not the director alone.

03

Productive Risk

We make work that isn't safe. Discomfort, in the right hands, is generative. We're not interested in confirming what audiences already know.
